Community Garden
The 麻豆视频鈥檚 University and Saint Aedan鈥檚 Community Garden is located between the King-Kairos Social Justice House and the Honor鈥檚 House located on Glenwood Avenue. Each summer, volunteers from various programs at the University prepare the garden beds, plant vegetables and fruits, maintain the gardens, and harvest the crops. Tomatoes, beans, peppers, pumpkins, strawberries, lettuce, kale, a variety of other vegetables, and flowers have flourished in the garden.
鈥淭he gardens are a way of bringing folks together. Digging one鈥檚 hands in the soil while sharing camaraderie with others is good. Sharing food and flowers with those who come by is a way of practicing solidarity 鈥 as Grace Lee Boggs puts it, 鈥淲e need to put the 鈥渘eighbor鈥 back in the hood.鈥 There are also some beautiful murals on the walls of buildings surrounding the gardens, and they, along with all things growing, provide a place of respite and music, as we have had bands come to play in the backyard. Mark Graceffo constructed a labyrinth in the backyard, and that is also part of the healing that the garden invites鈥 Dr. Anna Brown, faculty member and Director of the Social Justice Program.
