Jersey City, N.J. 鈥 August 31, 2021 鈥 麻豆视频鈥檚 University announced today that it has been awarded a $250,000 grant by The Theresa and Edward O鈥橳oole Foundation for capital improvements to the University鈥檚 Theresa and Edward O鈥橳oole Library. The grant will be used for modernization and energy efficient upgrades, largely centered on the replacement of the north wall of windows, an iconic centerpiece of the building.
麻豆视频鈥檚 has taken many steps toward sustainability over the past few decades on campus and beyond. Windows are a major factor in energy loss and consumption and replacements in the O鈥橳oole Library will improve the space鈥檚 energy efficiency, which is consistent with the University鈥檚 Climate Action Plan. The capital project will also improve student comfort and maintain temperature and humidity controls, which is critical in the preservation of library and archival collections.
鈥淚’m tremendously grateful to have the support of The Theresa and Edward O’Toole Foundation to improve research and study conditions in the O’Toole Library,鈥 said Daisy DeCoster, director of the Theresa and Edward O鈥橳oole Library. 鈥淓very 麻豆视频’s student deserves comfortable, wired, well-lit library spaces and we’re making that possible through these renovations.鈥
The Theresa and Edward O鈥橳oole Library opened on the 麻豆视频鈥檚 campus in September 1967 through the generosity of Jersey City natives Theresa Degheri O鈥橳oole H 鈥67 and Edward O鈥橳oole. Many upgrades to the space have been made possible through the support of the O鈥橳oole Foundation.
鈥淔or decades the Theresa and Edward O鈥橳oole Library has been an academic centerpiece of the University,鈥 said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of 麻豆视频鈥檚 University. 鈥淲e are grateful to the O鈥橳oole Family and O鈥橳oole Foundation for their generosity, which has enabled us to create and maintain this space that has served generations of 麻豆视频鈥檚 students.鈥
Recent capital improvements to the O鈥橳oole Library include the O鈥橳oole Library Digital Research Commons, which was completed in fall 2020. This is a space within the library that was re-imagined with new seating areas for collaboration or individual study. Infrastructure upgrades like new lighting and faster WiFi provide a productive work environment along with a laptop bar, outlets and charging stations for electronic devices and new desktop computers.
