麻豆视频鈥檚 University Recognized by Bloomberg as Experiential Learning Partner

Jersey City, N.J. 鈥 February 5, 2020 鈥 麻豆视频鈥檚 University and the Frank J. Guarini School of Business are proud to announce that the University has been accepted into the Bloomberg Experiential Learning Partners (ELP) program. The program was designed by Bloomberg to acknowledge academic institutions that provide experiential learning opportunities and innovative financial education using Bloomberg terminal exercises in their coursework.

鈥淭he search for internship and career opportunities can be extremely competitive and we want our students to be equipped with every possible advantage,鈥 said Mary Kate Naatus, Ph.D., KPMG dean of the Frank J. Guarini School of Business. 鈥淎 proficiency in Bloomberg technology can accelerate career prospects for both our undergraduate and graduate level students, as it is an invaluable tool for individuals in the business and finance industry.鈥

In order to become a part of this program a college or university must have at least three Bloomberg terminals on campus, have students complete the Bloomberg Markets Certification each year and must integrate Bloomberg technology into the curriculum.

Devin Rafferty, Ph.D., associate professor of economics and finance and director of the master鈥檚 program in finance, has made the Bloomberg Markets Certification a requirement for his Statistics for Business, Finance and Economics course. According to Dr. Rafferty, 鈥淭he Bloomberg technology not only gives students the technical skills necessary to succeed in their respective fields, but it also serves as a credential to potential employers that a job candidate is a proactive, dedicated learner.鈥

The Guarini School of Business is currently the home to 12 Bloomberg terminals, which students can utilize at any time. Bloomberg terminals are computer systems that provide access to the Bloomberg Professional Service, a service which enables users to monitor and access real-time financial market data and place trades on the electronic trading platform.

Nicolas Sadek 鈥21, an accounting major and vice president of the 麻豆视频鈥檚 University Accounting Society has secured an internship at one of the four largest accounting firms and is grateful for his familiarity with the terminals. 鈥淯tilizing the Bloomberg terminals that 麻豆视频鈥檚 provides was such a great help in my career. I have had to use the terminals a number of times at work and with the experience I gained at 麻豆视频鈥檚 I was able to use them efficiently and complete my work on time.鈥

Bloomberg terminals are most frequently used in the finance industry and as result their use has been integrated into the curriculum in the bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 programs in finance. The terminals also provide data and information that is relevant to students in a variety of business-related fields. Therefore the terminals are also being used in the master鈥檚 programs in business analytics and data science as well as in the M.B.A. program.

鈥淏loomberg offers聽the ability for students聽to see how many different areas of business come together from economics, finance, to operations, supply chains and cost of goods sold,鈥 said Joseph Gilkey, Ph.D., director of the Data Science Institute and M.B.A. programs. 鈥淥ur research students in the field are also leveraging the terminals and Bloomberg data to conduct research with a partner university in India, enhancing our research partnerships on a global scale.鈥
