Jersey City, N.J. – June 2, 2014 – Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s University today announced that Michael A. Fazio, vice president for advancement and external affairs, is the recipient of the Robert J. Smythe Award for Outstanding Professional Fundraiser. Fazio was presented with the award during the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) New Jersey Chapter Excellence in Philanthropy 33rd Annual Award Luncheon at the Pines Manor in Edison, N.J. on May 16. He was nominated by Graham-Pelton Consulting, Inc., a non-profit consulting firm.
“In 2011, Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s launched the largest capital campaign in the University’s history and we are currently closing in on meeting our $62 million goal,†said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s University. “More than half of all the philanthropy Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s ever received has been secured on Mike’s watch and we would not be so close to celebrating this momentous accomplishment without his leadership. Mike’s record of excellence in his field is certainly worthy of recognition.â€
Fazio has served Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s as the vice president for advancement and external affairs since 2007. He is responsible for leading the University’s fundraising, alumni engagement and communications units. In addition, he is also charged with external affairs, including community relations and certain business development initiatives. He began his career in advancement at Fordham University, where he also received both his B.A. and M.B.A. He then transitioned to consulting where he advised clients from all sectors on fundraising strategy and execution.
