SPC Gannon Debating Society to Host Debate Tournament on October 6-7

Jersey City — Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ’s College Gannon Debating Society will host the kickoff tournament of the National Educational Debate Association on Friday, October 6 and Saturday, October 7. More than 50 students will participate from Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ’s College, Duquesne University, University of Dayton, Ball State University, South Missouri State University, Capital University and Patrick Henry University.
 
“This very competitive event features some of the top college forensics team,” said Alain Sanders, a Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ’s College political science professor and moderator of the Gannon Debating Society.  “Our students will compete in a number of these tournaments organized around a particular theme or question throughout the academic year.”
 
Participants at this week’s opening tournament will debate the following resolution: Does the United States foreign policy inappropriately emphasize military action over diplomacy? Participants from the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ’s College Gannon Debating Society include Fernando Rendon ‘07, Maimoona Zia ‘07, Kris Gryte ‘07 and Maria Marrero ‘09. 
 
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ’s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City. The College has a branch campus for adults in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and also offers courses at various corporate sites at the Jersey City waterfront and in South Amboy, NJ.
