The TRIO SSS is a competitive grant, which awards funds to institutions to provide opportunities for academic development, to assist students with basic college requirements and to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education.<\/p>\n<p>The grant is designed to identify and provide services for individuals from low-income families, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities. Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s will receive $261,888 annually for five years, beginning with the 2020-21 academic year. The funds will support the existing EDGE (Explore, Discover, Gain, Experience and Excel) Student Support Services (SSS) Program at the University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have already seen tremendous success with our EDGE SSS Program over the past five years as we have met and exceeded our goals for retention, persistence and graduation,\u201d said Mildred Mihlon, Ph.D., associate vice president for academic affairs and assessment at Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University. \u201cWe look forward to continued and increased success with the program in the coming academic years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The EDGE SSS Program will continue to serve a minimum of 140 students annually by providing individualized counseling, career education, internships, exposure to culture events and more. Tutoring, coaching and mentoring are the cornerstones of a successful student support program; however, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s program will expand its offerings to include new features for the next five years.
