Jersey City, N.J. \u2013 October 24, 2017 –<\/strong> Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University today announced that it was included in The Princeton Review\u2019s \u201cGuide to 375 Green Colleges: 2017 Edition<\/a>.\u201d A presence on this list means Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s is one of the 375 most environmentally responsible colleges in the United States and Canada, according to The Princeton Review, an education services company known for its test prep programs and college rankings, ratings and guidebook profiles.<\/p>\n

\u201cEnvironmental responsibility is not just a consideration for Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s, it is embedded in our mission as a Jesuit, Catholic institution,\u201d said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University. \u201cCaring for our home\u2014the Earth\u2014is core to Catholic Social Teaching and Jesuit ministry. I am proud to be recognized once again with this honor from The Princeton Review and we look forward to future advancements in sustainability on our campus.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Princeton Review’s \u201cGuide to 375 Green Colleges, 2017 Edition\u201d profiles colleges with the most exceptional commitments to sustainability based on their academic offerings and career preparation for students, campus policies, initiatives and activities. The Princeton Review chose the colleges based on “Green Rating” scores (from 60 to 99) that the company tallied in summer 2017 for 629 colleges using data from its 2016-17 survey of school administrators. Schools with Green Rating scores of 80 or higher made it into the guide.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur online Green Guide offers really helpful information for students about green majors and careers and the benefits of choosing a green college,\u201d said Robert Franek, editor-in-chief of The Princeton Review. \u201cWe know that students are increasingly interested in this issue and we are happy to be able to help them make an informed decision. Among more than 10,000 teens and parents who participated in our 2017 College Hopes & Worries Survey<\/a>, 64 percent told us that having information about a school\u2019s commitment to the environment would influence their decision to apply to or attend the college. We strongly recommend the schools in this guide to environmentally-minded students who seek to study and live at green colleges.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the guide\u2019s profile on Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University, The Princeton Review highlights the University\u2019s Sustainability Council and the academic programs with an environmental focus such as the major in environmental science, and the major in biology with a concentration in environmental science. Sustainability-oriented student groups such as SAVE: Students Against Violating the Earth and Junk Yard Dogs were also featured in the profile. The University was acknowledged for its LEED Silver-certified Mac Mahon Student Center and the implementation of 100 percent renewable energy generated by wind power as the sole source of purchased electricity. In addition, this year Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s was named as a Finalist for the 2017 Climate Leadership Awards for innovative and advanced leadership in sustainability, climate mitigation and resilience.<\/p>\n
