Jersey City Deputy Mayor Vivian Brady-Phillips came to the McIntyre Conference Center at Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s on Thursday, December 3 to discuss city government and the importance of community and public service initiatives with students and faculty members.<\/p>\n
Deputy Mayor Brady-Phillip\u2019s presentation was part of Pizza & Politics, an annual event series hosted by the Guarini Institute for Government and Leadership at Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University.<\/p>\n
During her discussion, Deputy Mayor Brady-Phillips touched upon several of her roles, which included collaborating on community service projects, developing greater investment in social services and increasing the exposure of career opportunities to youths through initiatives such as Jersey City Summer Works and the Jersey City Internship program.<\/p>\n
\u201cI always wanted to be engaged with the community somehow and I feel lucky that I get to do this as part of my work every day,\u201d said Deputy Mayor Brady-Phillips.<\/p>\n
Deputy Mayor Brady-Phillips also discussed the city\u2019s efforts to help the local business community such as working to secure grants and learning how to revitalize the climate so that it is more receptive to businesses. In addition, she emphasized the importance of working with college students through providing them internships in the mayor\u2019s office as well as in various departments.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an enormous help to us, but it\u2019s also helpful for them to understand what\u2019s happening in the city government,\u201d she added. \u201cInternships are a great way for students to see if city government is something in which they might be interested.\u201d<\/p>\n
