{"id":4117,"date":"2015-05-26T12:08:54","date_gmt":"2015-05-26T16:08:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/news\/?p=4117"},"modified":"2024-08-22T09:57:22","modified_gmt":"2024-08-22T13:57:22","slug":"university-receives-netvue-program-development-grant-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/news\/2015\/05\/26\/university-receives-netvue-program-development-grant-award\/","title":{"rendered":"University Receives NetVUE Program Development Grant Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Jersey City, N.J. \u2013 May 26, 2015 \u2013<\/strong> Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University today announced that the University has been awarded \u00a0a NetVUE Program Development Grant Award in the amount of more than $45,000 to be used over a two-year period. NetVue, the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education, is a nationwide network of colleges and universities formed to enrich the intellectual and theological exploration of vocation among undergraduate students. This initiative is administered by The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) through support from the Lilly Endowment Inc. and members\u2019 dues. The grant will be used to support a Life Portfolio Project at Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>The Life Portfolio Project is an initiative which will engage students from their first year at the University through graduation. The portfolio will be used by students to record reflections throughout their college career regarding academic and co-curricular activities. The Life Portfolio Project is intended to help students engage more directly in their own personal development by using the principles of Ignatian discernment to identify a sense of calling in their life as they recognize and nurture their gifts and talents. They will store papers, projects and evidence of their academic and personal development. With the assistance of advisors, faculty and representatives from the departments of career services and campus ministry, students will use the data in the Life Portfolio to help them discern choices for internships, graduate schools and other career-related options.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we think of vocations we often think of a consecrated, religious life; however a vocation actually is a calling towards a path that best suits a person\u2019s gifts and talents,\u201d said Rev. Michael Braden, S.J. vice president for mission and ministry at Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University. \u201cThe Life Portfolio Project will encourage our students to assume responsibility for their own education and help them find their calling in the process.
