Jersey City, N.J.<\/strong> \u2013 June 2, 2014 \u2013<\/strong> Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University today announced that Michael A. Fazio, vice president for advancement and external affairs, is the recipient of the Robert J. Smythe Award for Outstanding Professional Fundraiser. Fazio was presented with the award during the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) New Jersey Chapter Excellence in Philanthropy 33rd<\/sup> Annual Award Luncheon at the Pines Manor in Edison, N.J. on May 16.\u00a0 He was nominated by Graham-Pelton Consulting, Inc., a non-profit consulting firm.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2011, Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s launched the largest capital campaign in the University\u2019s history and we are currently closing in on meeting our $62 million goal,\u201d said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University. \u201cMore than half of all the philanthropy Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s ever received has been secured on Mike\u2019s watch and we would not be so close to celebrating this momentous accomplishment without his leadership. Mike\u2019s record of excellence in his field is certainly worthy of recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fazio has served Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s as the vice president for advancement and external affairs since 2007. He is responsible for leading the University\u2019s fundraising, alumni engagement and communications units. In addition, he is also charged with external affairs, including community relations and certain business development initiatives. He began his career in advancement at Fordham University, where he also received both his B.A. and M.B.A. He then transitioned to consulting where he advised clients from all sectors on fundraising strategy and execution.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have often looked to the AFP New Jersey Chapter as a leader and a source for guidance in the industry,\u201d said Fazio. \u201cI am incredibly humbled to be recognized by this respected organization and am honored to be cited for my work at such an incredible institution, Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University.\u00a0 I am blessed with an incredible team.\u00a0 Any credit I receive is a direct reflection of their hard work and dedication.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since 1981, AFP-NJ\u2019s Excellence in Philanthropy Awards have recognized the achievements of some of the most notable citizens and organizations in the state who have dedicated their efforts toward making New Jersey a better place to live through the dedication of their resources, time and talent.<\/p>\n
