{"id":3515,"date":"2014-05-14T11:46:17","date_gmt":"2014-05-14T15:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/news\/?p=3515"},"modified":"2014-05-14T11:46:17","modified_gmt":"2014-05-14T15:46:17","slug":"michael-steinman-appointed-interim-provost-and-vice-president-of-academic-affairs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/news\/2014\/05\/14\/michael-steinman-appointed-interim-provost-and-vice-president-of-academic-affairs\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Steinman Appointed Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Jersey City, N.J.<\/strong><b> \u2013 May 14, 2014 \u2013<\/b> Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University today announced the appointment of Michael Steinman as interim provost and vice president of academic affairs for Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very pleased to welcome Dr. Steinman to the Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s community,\u201d said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University. \u201cI believe the University will benefit\u00a0tremendously from his extensive experience with various universities throughout the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Steinman most recently served as interim special assistant to the provost at Fisk University where he focused on projects related to curriculum review and change, academic program reviews, general management and personnel policies, and strategic and budget planning.\u00a0\u00a0 He also served as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at John Jay College of the City University of New York, Associate Provost and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth, and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.<\/p>\n<p>In these positions, his responsibilities were related to academic planning and budgeting, the review and, when needed, revision and restructuring of undergraduate and graduate majors, the development of new majors, learning communities, service learning and pedagogical innovation, research and external grant support, partnerships with other institutions, first year student programs, and faculty recruitment and support. As a professor of political science, he taught courses in American government and public administration and received awards for teaching and his work with students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am honored to be selected to join the Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University community,\u201d said Steinman. \u201cI look forward to working with Dr. Cornacchia, his team, and Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s faculty, staff and students. The University\u2019s plans to build on its distinguished history are truly exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Steinman received his B.A. from The George Washington University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
