Jersey City, N.J. \u2013 April 11, 2014 –<\/b> Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University today announced that the University will host New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, former Governor Jim McGreevey, U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman and former professional basketball player Jayson Williams for the \u201cPrison Reentry: Breaking the Cycle\u201d conference. The event will be held on Thursday, April 17 on the University\u2019s Jersey City campus in The Duncan Family Sky Room of the Mac Mahon Student Center from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis upcoming conference is just one of the latest events in recent history where we have had the opportunity to welcome local, state and national leaders to our campus,\u201d said Eugene J. Cornacchia, president of Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University. \u201cWe are proud that Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s can be a part of conversations on significant national issues such as prisoner re-entry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fulop formally launched a prisoner re-entry program in Jersey City in March 2014. He is working alongside McGreevey, who currently serves as the executive director of the Jersey City Employment and Training Program, an organization designed to help the community to gain employment through personal outreach services. Governor Christie will serve as the keynote speaker at the event and Williams will discuss his personal re-entry experience.<\/p>\n

Addiction, recidivism and a lack of housing and training are all critical challenges that often plague ex-offenders. The purpose of the upcoming conference is to focus on the process of an ex-offender\u2019s reintegration into civil society. The participants will attempt to design a plan for local and regional re-entry efforts.<\/p>\n
