Jersey City<\/span><\/strong>, N.J. – <\/span><\/strong>Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College today announced that Thomas P. Mac Mahon ’68, retired chairman and chief executive officer of LabCorp, has been elected chairman of the Board of Trustees for the College. Mac Mahon, whose $7.5 million gift to Students at the Center: The Campaign for Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College<\/em> is the largest in the College’s history, has served as the chairman for the Campaign <\/em>and as an active member of the Board of Trustees. He will chair the Board for a three-year term. <\/span><\/p>\n “I spent four of the greatest years of my life at Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s. I consider it an honor and a privilege to still be involved and leading the Board during this unprecedented time in the institution’s history,” Mac Mahon stated. “In just a few weeks we’ll be known as Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s University. I’m thrilled.”<\/span> <\/p>\n Following his studies at Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s, Mac Mahon went on to become a pioneer in the field of medical diagnostics. During his more than 40-year career in healthcare, he worked at Roche Diagnostics, where he played a leading role in commercializing the use of PCR, a Nobel Prize-winning development that led to the analysis of human DNA. He completed his career as the chairman and chief executive officer of LabCorp, one of the world’s largest operators of clinical laboratories.<\/span> <\/p>\n Mac Mahon credits much of his success to the education, discipline and friendships he gained from his experience at Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College and is extremely pleased to give back. “The foundation of my life was built on the streets of Jersey City, here at the corner of Kennedy Boulevard and Montgomery Street,” said Mac Mahon, referring to the College. “After five years overseeing the capital campaign, I am excited to lead the Board of Trustees and pass the baton to Frank,” said Mac Mahon, in reference to Francis A. McGrail ’79. McGrail, vice chair of the Board of Trustees, will assume the chairmanship of Students at the Center<\/em>. “I am proud to help steer the Campaign to its conclusion. <\/span>We wouldn’t be where we are – with nearly $52 million raised on our $62 million goal – without Tom and those like him,” said McGrail. “We have a lot to be excited about. <\/span>But we also have a lot of work to do.”<\/p>\n
