Jersey City – Four undergraduate students from Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College received a scholarship gift totaling $10,000 from the Northfield Bank Foundation on October 21, 2008. Albert J. Regen ’59, a board member for the Northfield Bank Foundation as well as Northfield Bank, and Patrick E. Scura ’66, also a Northfield Bank board member, presented the donation to Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College President Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., and the scholarship recipients at the College’s Guarini House on the Jersey City campus.<\/p>\n
The students, who each received a scholarship of $2,500 include: Sandya Dowlat ’11, a nursing major from South Plainfield, N.J.; Max Ponce ’10, a biology major from Linden, N.J.; Catarina Abrantes ’09, a Spanish major from Union, N.J.; and Diana Jaramillo ’12, from Hillside, N.J. whose major is currently undecided. <\/p>\n
Scholarship gifts provide important financial support for students who could not otherwise receive an education from Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s. The students must meet certain criteria in order to be eligible for a scholarship from the Northfield Bank Foundation; they must demonstrate financial need, as well as academic merit, with at least a 3.0 grade point average. They must also reside in Middlesex or Union county, and be enrolled full-time or part-time at the College.<\/p>\n
The mission of the Northfield Bank Foundation is to promote charitable purposes within the communities in which Northfield Bank operates – Staten Island, Brooklyn and Central New Jersey. The Foundation focuses its efforts on projects to support education, health and human services, youth programs, affordable housing and other types of community organizations or civic-minded projects that improve the quality of life.<\/p>\n
