Jersey City<\/strong> – Former New York Times war correspondent and Pulitzer Prize winner, Chris Hedges, will present “Iraq: Why Care?” at Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College on Wednesday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. in McIntyre Lounge. This event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mr. Hedges will discuss the current situation in Iraq, and why the public should continue to take an active interest in the war, despite decreasing media coverage.  <\/span>He will also share his experiences as a foreign war correspondent, focusing on the influences that his moral devotion has on his journalistic and political perspectives.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mr. Hedges was part of the team from The New York Times that won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for the paper’s coverage of global terrorism. He also received the 2002 Amnesty International Global Award for Human Rights Journalism.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Currently a Senior Fellow at The Nation Institute<\/em> in New York City, Mr. Hedges is also a Lecturer for the Council of the Humanities <\/em>and the Anschutz Distinguished Fellow at Princeton University. He spent nearly two decades as a foreign correspondent in Central America, the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans.<\/p>\n

Mr. Hedges has reported from more than fifty countries and has worked for major media, including National Public Radio, The Dallas Morning News and The New York Times, where he spent fifteen years.  <\/span>He holds a B.A. in English Literature from Colgate University and a Master of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School.<\/p>\n

Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City. The College has a branch campus for adults in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and also offers courses at various corporate sites at the Jersey City waterfront and in South Amboy, NJ.<\/p>\n
