{"id":1670,"date":"2007-09-20T10:11:22","date_gmt":"2007-09-20T10:11:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/news\/2007\/09\/20\/spc-freshmen-participate-in-first-annual-service-project\/"},"modified":"2013-02-01T19:48:12","modified_gmt":"2013-02-01T19:48:12","slug":"spc-freshmen-participate-in-first-annual-service-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/news\/2007\/09\/20\/spc-freshmen-participate-in-first-annual-service-project\/","title":{"rendered":"SPC  freshmen participate in first annual service project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Jersey City<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">:<span>&nbsp; <\/span>On <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">September 8, 2007<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\"> thirty three members of the class of 2011 made a huge difference in <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Hudson<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">County<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\"> at the First Annual Freshman Service Day along with student leaders, faculty, staff, and administrators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Participants were split into groups to spend time in service activities at four local organizations: the Hoboken Shelter, a homeless shelter and soup kitchen for men, women and children; the Jubilee Center, a non-for-profit after school care program for underprivileged children; Resurrection Parish, a Jersey City Church; and Habitat for Humanity, which promotes home ownership with volunteers building houses in partnership with Hudson County residents in need of adequate housing. Together teams cleaned the shelter, organized the center, weeded and planted flowers at the church, and canvassed <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Jersey City<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\"> to tell the community about the upcoming Habitat for Humanity Walk-a-thon. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Beatriz Bruna, the College&rsquo;s Director of Community Service and Service Learning, acknowledged the work of the teams: &ldquo;the volunteers made a big difference in the community by going out and getting their hands dirty!!:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Â鶹ÊÓƵ&rsquo;s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey.&nbsp;Founded in 1872, Â鶹ÊÓƵ&rsquo;s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs.&nbsp;The main campus is located in <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Jersey City<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">.
