June 6, 2002 —<\/I><\/FONT> Jack Savage Will Retire as Assistant to President at Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College<\/FONT><\/B><\/FONT><\/P> Savage Served at College for Six Years in Government and Community Affairs Jersey City, NJ – Jack Savage, who has served as Assistant to the President, Government and Community Affairs at Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College for the last six years will retire from his post at the end of June. Along with his work at the College, which included serving as Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Savage helped improve the quality of life for Jersey City residents.<\/FONT><\/P> The former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey senior executive came to Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s in 1995 and taught for two years in the College’s Management and Marketing Department before moving to his current position. In that administrative role at the College, Savage served on the board of numerous Hudson County and Jersey City groups, including the McGinely Square Partnership, Catholic Community Services of Hudsion County and the Hudson County Coalition of Non-Profit Organizations.<\/FONT><\/P> Savage, as part of the College’s Area Improvement Program, served as a member of the McGinley Square Project. He worked with the Jersey City Mayor ‘s Office, City Council, Jersey City Economic Development Corporation and Jersey City Public Works to develop on-going neighborhood revitalization projects for McGinley Square. These efforts include facade and streetscape improvement and expansion of McGinley Square Park.<\/FONT><\/P> Savage also helped create the Institute for the Advancement of Community Leadership and Service Learning in Jersey City. Through an initiative between Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s, Hudson County’s other institutions of higher learning, and numerous city and county departments, the program improves the leadership and community-building skills of local residents.<\/FONT><\/P> “I greatly enjoyed my seven years at Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s, largely because it allowed me to interact with hundreds of great people at the College and in the community,” Savage said. “Jersey City\/Hudson County has to be the most interesting place in the country, if not the world, to be involved in community work. The politics are rich and the diversity of its people is unmatched. I have been particularly impressed with the quality of people engaged fully in making Jersey City a better place to live, work, and study.”<\/FONT><\/P> Savage, who was born and raised in Jersey City, is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy who earned his Masters Degree from NYU. He also studied at Georgetown University’s Edmunc A. Walsh, S.J. School of Foreign Service. Prior to joining Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s, Savage served as a senior manager in port administration and operations for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He currently resides in Maywood, NJ where he was recently elected to Committeeman.<\/FONT><\/P> Savage, a retired United States Navy Captain, has no immediate retirement plans, but vows to stay involved in Jersey City’s community life.
