Jersey City, N.J. \u2013 October 2, 2023 \u2013<\/strong> Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University is proud to announce that the Municipal Council of the City of Jersey City will officially designate Glenwood Avenue, from John F. Kennedy Boulevard to West Side Avenue, as \u201cPeacock Way.\u201d This commemoratory designation honors the enduring legacy of Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University, its remarkable contributions to the City and the historic NCAA run of the men\u2019s basketball team to the Elite Eight, which captured the \u201cattention and hearts of the entire City.\u201d An unveiling ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 4 at 12:30 p.m. on the corner of Glenwood Avenue and John F. Kennedy Boulevard. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>According to the ordinance, \u201cbestowing the moniker Peacock Way <\/em>on this portion of Glenwood Avenue is a fitting way to recognize Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s enduring active presence in Jersey City.\u201d The ordinance states that \u201cfor over 150 years Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s has provided academic and athletic excellence, religious services and community partnerships.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s community is thrilled with the Council\u2019s decision to designate a street within our open campus in honor of our Peacocks,\u201d said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University. \u201cThis recognition marks a significant milestone in the University\u2019s more than 150-year history and it highlights the profound interconnection between Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s and this vibrant community we call home. In many ways, Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s history is Jersey City\u2019s history and we look forward to continuing our shared journey of growth, transformation and mutual support.\u201d<\/p>\n

All members of the community are invited to attend the unveiling ceremony, which will include remarks from Dr. Cornacchia, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop H \u201914, Council President Joyce Watterman and Councilwoman Mira Prinz-Arey.<\/p>\n

“The dedication of Peacock Way is a fitting tribute to all they ways Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University has contributed to the City of Jersey City,” said Councilwoman Prinz-Arey. “We look forward to continuing our partnership to improve our neighborhoods and communities.”<\/p>\n
