Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College, The Indo-Pak Student Association, The Vigilant International Magazine, and The Sub-Continent Peace Foundation have joined together to present: a republic day celebration of Pakistan’s people and culture. This event on March 21st in Pope Hall will provide an evening of entertainment, information, interaction, and ethnic food. March 21st promises a pleasant opportunity to listen, learn, and talk about history, society, philosophy, politics, and poetry. Nearly two billion people live on the subcontinent; that’s close to one third of our human race. The Pakistani people come from a long history and rich heritage. Their culture will inspire; their cuisine will delight. H’ors d’oeuvres will be served in Pope Hall lobby, starting at 4:30. The evening will officially commence at 5:00 in the Lecture Hall with opening remarks from Father-President James Loughran, S.J., before hearing from local political figures, Pakistani experts, and UN dignitaries. Presentations will feature ideas about Pakistan’s identity, political changes, relationship with the USA, and the complex redefinition of women’s roles and empowerment in Pakistan. At approximately 6:30, all participants will have an opportunity to mix and mingle with speakers while enjoying a catered buffet dinner offering an array of nutritious and sumptuous food choices. Dinner will be served in the classrooms adjoining Pope lobby. There will be music and poetry. After dinner, this evening of activities will highlight an address from Pakistan’s Consul General to the United Nations.
