Jersey City, NJ (October 26, 2004) \u2013Don Kennedy, arguably the most prominent non-Jesuit in Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s College history, passed away on October 26 at the age of 97. Kennedy coached the Peacocks\u2019 men\u2019s basketball team to a record 323 victories from 1950 to 1972.Coach Kennedy, who also served as the College\u2019s athletic director, was honored as an Honorary Alumnus two years ago. He coached a brand of fast-paced, high-scoring basketball that reached its zenith in 1967-68 when his Peacocks achieved national acclaim with a spectacular 100-71 victory over heavily-favored and nationally-ranked Duke at Madison Square Garden in the National Invitation Tournament.Kennedy came to Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College in 1950. He was active in basketball since the sport was in its infancy in the early part of the 20th century. He was a highly-regarded scholastic coach who guided Regis High School in New York City to a national championship in 1948.Kennedy is survived by eight of his nine children and 19 grandchildren.
