Jersey City, NJ (December 06, 2004) \u2013Several Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s College students recently earned top honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for their performances both in and outside the classroom.Four of the six returning players on the 2004 women\u2019s volleyball team earned All-MAAC Academic team honors. Senior captain Ludmila Kechina was Academic All-MAAC for the third straight season, while sophomores Alina Gatskova, Michal Hausfater and Tara Teslaa made the All-Academic team in their first eligible seasons.All-MAAC Academic team members from the 2004 men\u2019s soccer team included Pablo Orantes, Pat Nagawiecki, Alberico De Pierro, Alano Groves, Jose Raposo and Sadibou Sylla.Chris Tyne, Troy Lindsley and Sirajj Ziyad from the Peacocks\u2019 football squad made the MAAC All-Academic team.In addition, Junior Sean Mayers, tailback, was named the 2004 MAAC co-offensive player of the year. Mayers\u2019 school record of 1,546 rushing yards in 10 games was second best nationally in Division I-AA at 154.6 yards per game. In other honors, Douglas Narvaez was voted 2004 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year. He was also selected to the All-MAAC First team, where he was joined by sweeper Pablo Orantes, the Peacocks captain, and forward Carlos Villacres. Junior transfer Gulhan Cakcak was honored as an All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference First team selection and freshman Valeria Kovaleva was an All-MAAC Second team pick.Cortney Baxter and Sarah Meier of the Peacocks\u2019 women\u2019s soccer team made the 2004 MAAC All-Rookie team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
