Jersey City, NJ (January 4, 2005) – The Provident Bank Foundation recently pledged $180,000 to Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College over a five-year period, increasing the financial institution’s endowed scholarship fund at the College to $250,000. <\/p>\n
“We value our long-term relationship with Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s and this endowed scholarship represents an ongoing investment in this community we have served since 1839,” said Paul M. Pantozzi, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of The Provident Bank “These scholarships will help to provide an education for students who will enter the work force in a few short years. Given the competitive nature of business, it is even more critical today to prepare students for the complex set of challenges in the business world.” The Provident Bank has provided scholarship assistance to numerous Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College students since 1973. The increased endowment will enable more students to receive financial assistance. <\/p>\n
The two Provident Bank Scholars for the 2004-2005 academic year are Carmen Genao ’07 of Jersey City, an International Business and Trade major, and Michael Lamela ’07 of Bayonne, a Business Management major. Provident scholars must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better and major in Business. “The Provident Bank has been a longtime supporter of the College, both through its scholarship assistance and in our cooperative education program,” said Dr. Eugene Cornacchia, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Provident’s generosity will enable many of our students to pursue their academic careers and professional goals.” <\/p>\n
Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City .
