Jersey City, NJ (February 7, 2005) – Peace activist Jocelyn Selene Perry will discuss the war in Iraq and the link between government and the corporate sector as part of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College Social Justice Program Lecture Series on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at 1 p.m. in Pope Lecture Hall. “Ms. Perry’s background in the corporate world, research into how conflicts are financed and her decision to work full-time for peace will offer some new perspectives on the nature of all conflicts,” said Dr. Anna Brown, Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College political science professor and organizer of the lecture series. Perry’s address is entitled “Merchants of Death: Militarism, Racism and Materialism.” <\/p>\n
Perry is an African-American woman and worked in the investment banking industry for many years. Perry was an eyewitness to the events of September 11 th. She traveled to Iraq last year with the Christian Peacemaker Team and lectures extensively on racism and nonviolent responses to conflict. Perry is a graduate of Hunter College in New York City. The lecture is co-sponsored by several departments and organizations at the College including African-American Studies, Public Policy, Minority Affairs and Campus Ministry. The event is open to the general public and a question and answer period will follow Perry’s general remarks. <\/p>\n
