If you\u2019re looking for a short-term way to gain cross-cultural insights, a faculty-led travel course could be an ideal option for you. It\u2019s the perfect way to combine classroom learning in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ\u2019s with experiential learning around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Students can travel overseas and earn credit with a Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ&#8217;s faculty member over winter or spring break. Look for courses with the INTL designation in Class Search, Spirit Online. The primary emphasis is on the history and development of the two major national systems of Administrative Justice Model with the American Common Law Model. The course includes the study of the police organizations, the courts, the criminal sentencing process and rehabilitative institutions, and their respective jurisdictions. Analysis of the structure and process within various theoretical frameworks is incorporated into all phases of the course. Special attention is paid to the processes of adjudication and supervision of the offender in the community. Students will learn from classroom discussions, textbook review and field study in Spain and Portugal. As a result of the field experience the student will see the Spain and Portugal systems in action and be able to compare the Administrative Justice Model with the American Common Law Model. We will analyze a selection of poems, plays, novellas, and novels from various historical eras, while considering the lives and times of their creators, and will view and analyze some stage and film adaptations of them, too. Situated at the far edge of the ancient Roman Empire and what is now Europe, and destined by geography to play a central role in the contact and exchange between the Old World of Europe and the New World of the Americas, Spain is an incredibly rich place to understand how the world connects. Students will read historical texts and primary sources to prepare them for the exploration of la tierra encantada (the enchanted earth) that is Spain.
