(PDF)<\/p><\/div>\n<p align=\"left\">The Summer Academy at Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University provides the entering freshman with an introduction to college life and the opportunity to begin a successful college career.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">We invite you to an unforgettable summer as you begin your college experience. With the Summer Academy you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Earn three academic credits <\/strong>and get an early start on your first year in college.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Take an engaging, interdisciplinary course <\/strong>while sharpening your reading, writing and math skills.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Summer Academy tuition and program fees<\/strong> cover the cost of books and supplies and, for resident students, a Summer Housing &amp; Meal Plan. All will be charged to your summer semester bill.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Work on fun and engaging group projects.<\/strong> In the past, some student work was published in the school newspaper or presented in professional conferences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Enjoy a fun-filled summer <\/strong>with educational activities that supplement your classroom experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For details, please refer to the ASP brochure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GOALS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Summer Academy was designed to offer first-time college students the support of an intensive, three-week program focusing on making a successful transition into the academic college arena. The Summer Academy will highlight academic and life skills, introduce students to the demands of college, and present an overview of the resources available to students at Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University.<\/p>\n<p>The Summer Academy also seeks to provide those who attend with an opportunity to meet other first-time college students. We stress a collaborative approach to learning and encourage students to work in groups on a variety of tasks. The Summer Academy is committed to exposing students to the variety of teaching methods they may encounter during their years at Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BENEFITS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students who attend the Summer Academy will earn three academic credits toward graduation through a course entitled ED101 Dynamics of College Learning.<\/p>\n<p>Topics covered in the course include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TECHNOLOGY\u2013 introduction to computers, BlackBoard, online research.<\/li>\n<li>STUDY SKILLS\u00a0\u2013 note-taking, time management, testing strategies.<\/li>\n<li>MATHEMATICS\u00a0\u2013 overcoming math anxiety, review of concepts.<\/li>\n<li>READING\u00a0for comprehension and critical analysis.<\/li>\n<li>WRITING\u00a0college level essays and research.<\/li>\n<li>READING &amp; MATH PLACEMENT RETESTING\u00a0\u2013 accelerate your learning by improving your scores and placing out of developmental courses in the fall semester.<\/li>\n<li>RESOURCES\u00a0\u2013 introduction to the library and other College resources.<\/li>\n<li>COLLEGE LIFE\u00a0\u2013 expectations\/responsibilities of being a college student, as well as potential pitfalls.<\/li>\n<li>PROJECTS\u00a0\u2013 fun, educational group projects and activities, such as creating debate teams, producing a newsletter, a short play, and more.<\/li>\n<li>FIELD TRIPS\u00a0\u2013 to supplement classroom learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Summer Academy at Â鶹ÊÓƵ\u2019s University provides the entering freshman with an introduction to college life and the opportunity to begin a successful college career.
