  {"id":122,"date":"2012-08-30T17:14:02","date_gmt":"2012-08-30T21:14:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/school-of-education\/?page_id=122"},"modified":"2021-09-17T14:08:23","modified_gmt":"2021-09-17T18:08:23","slug":"alternate-route-certification-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/academics\/graduate-programs\/education\/alternate-route-certification-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Alternate Route to Certification Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ&#8217;s University Alternate Route Program is a method for college graduates to become fully certified teachers without receiving a master&#8217;s degree.\u00a0 The program has four steps which take place over the course of a calendar year.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the program please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/education\/educators\/license\/alternate.htm\">New Jersey State Department of Education&#8217;s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prospective students MUST have a bachelor&#8217;s degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of 2.75 or above to enroll in the Alternate Route Program.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: 24 Hour Program<\/h3>\n<p>Before students can enroll in the Alternate Route Program, they must obtain a <strong>Certificate of Eligibility (CE)<\/strong> from the New Jersey State Department of Education.\u00a0 As of October 31, 2009, New Jersey requires that in order to apply for a CE, a candidate must first complete a &#8220;24 Hour Program.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ&#8217;s University offers the 24 Hour Program four times per year.\u00a0 The course takes place on four consecutive Saturdays on the third floor of McDermott Hall.\u00a0 Classes start at 9:00AM and run until 3:15PM, with 15 minutes for lunch.\u00a0 The student must complete all four sections of the program in order to be eligible to apply for a CE.\u00a0 The fee for the course is $200.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Obtain Certificate of Eligibility (CE)<\/h3>\n<p>Once students have completed the 24 Hour Program, they must contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/education\/educators\/license\/\">New Jersey State Department of Education<\/a> to obtain their Certificate of Eligibility.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 3: Find employment in a school district<\/h3>\n<p>A student can only enter the St. Peter&#8217;s College Alternate Route program while employed at a parochial, private, or public school.\u00a0 The candidate must apply to the program through the administration or human resources department of their place of employment.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 4: Enroll in Alternate Route to Certification Program<\/h3>\n<p>There are four phases of the program:<\/p>\n<table width=\"50%%\" border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"1\" cellpadding=\"1\" align=\"\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Phase<\/td>\n<td>Duration<\/td>\n<td>Fee<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Phase 1a<\/td>\n<td>20 hours<\/td>\n<td>$145<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Phase 1b<\/td>\n<td>60 hours<\/td>\n<td>$435<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Phase 2<\/td>\n<td>60 hours<\/td>\n<td>$435<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Phase 3<\/td>\n<td>60 hours<\/td>\n<td>$435<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Classes take place Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday nights depending on phase and location.\u00a0 Classes are always 4pm to 8pm.\u00a0 The program is available at four locations: Jersey City, Kearny, Plainfield, and Sayreville.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ&#8217;s University Alternate Route Program is a method for college graduates to become fully certified teachers without receiving a master&#8217;s degree.\u00a0 The program has four steps which take place over the course of a calendar year.
